Sonho Meu (sown.yo.MAY.oo) is fluent in traditional and popular music from across Brazil, from pagode and samba to MPB and baião. The Boston-based group digs deep into the rich and diverse styles of Brazilian music, taking pride in representing this classic slice of the country's culture with love, respect and joy.

By way of description, Sonho Meu (which means Dream of Mine) is a seven-member group of musicians who are passionate about performing, and sharing with others, the traditional, popular and diverse Brazilian styles. Live performances are full of energy and always a hit with audiences. One of the highest compliments ever received following a show came from a man who said, “You make me proud to be Brazilian.”

As Sonhozinho (Little Dream) we also offer duo, trio, or quartet ensembles, and can customize our repertoire for smaller or quieter occasions like dinners, mixers, and cocktail receptions.

Diane Amelia Read is the founder and lead singer of Sonho Meu. Diane began singing and playing piano as a child but it wasn't until she was introduced to Brazilian music in her late 30's that she felt the desire to perform. "When I heard street samba for the first time my heart started racing from excitement and connection. I was hooked." Diane began playing percussion with the Batucada Belles (Cambridge, MA), followed by Unidos Back Bay (Boston), and Samba Tremeterra (Cambridge.) In 2000, Diane performed with Unidos do Mundo (Rio de Janeiro) the first samba school made of non-Brazilians to perform in the Sambadrome. Still, singing in public was not on the radar.

But while playing tamborim with the Berkshire Bateria Escola de Samba (Great Barrington, MA), Diane was invited to sing a song when the regular singer missed a rehearsal. She has been singing Brazilian music ever since. Diane formed Sonho Meu in January, 2003 as a vehicle to explore and perform the diverse and enticing forms of Brazilian music along side others who share this passion.
