In the 20th cent. interest in family history has become widespread. Tracing family history is a popular activity, as a recognition of the importance of family at all social levels.
To the mind of Rick Evin (writer and enthusiast of genealogy research) -
“In a time of rapidly expanding internet use and the advent of Google as a verb meaning to search,
it's often thought: what could not possibly be found on the internet? The internet is a terrific means of rapidly searching through many places at once, allowing us to search databases for public records or look through millions of genealogy resources online in a matter of minutes.
However, while the internet makes our search for information easy and efficient, it is critical to remember that the resources available on the internet—while there may be a lot—are not all that there is to be found
Unfortunately, this is a myth.
Not every record is on the internet, since such records must have been transcribed into an electric form and hosted on a website.”

Buryan,Burjan,Burian,Burgyan
There is a theory that all/most of this names could be traced to St. Buryan,
a Celtic missionary from the 5th century. During the Scilly Isle wars (932
AD), Cornish Buryans collaborated with the English king and were rewarded
with baronial arms. This entailed the obligation to defend the English king
when called upon. At the Battle of Hastings (1066 AD) they lost their
Cornish lands to the Normans, were taken prisoners of war and exiled to
Northern France. These Buryans travelled down the Danube and were feared as
'raub ritters.' As they travelled, forgetting English and acquiring German,
Hungarian and Czech, Buryans became Burians, Burjans and Burgyans. First
name mentioned in Hungarian documents was Johannes Burian in 1411. Burians
were nobled in 1601 by Rudolph I of Austria. Hungarian Burgyans were nobled
in 1694 and Burians in 1725.
Oleg”s Buryan family belong to much eastern branch of this tree and come from Western Ukraine(Austria-Hungary before)
